Business Grants – TMS Finance

Check whether grant support can reduce the cost of your next project.

A grant can help fund an eligible investment without taking on conventional loan repayments. But schemes have specific purposes, budgets and conditions. Checking the fit early can prevent wasted applications and avoid committing to costs that a scheme will not fund.

Before you proceed

Send your postcode, sector, project outline, budget, planned start date and the amount you can contribute.

An enquiry does not confirm eligibility, approval or a provider offer. The responsible specialist or provider must assess your requirements.

Start with the project, not the promise of free money

Grants commonly target defined outcomes such as innovation, business development or environmental improvements. Location, company size, sector and project timing can affect eligibility. A scheme open elsewhere may not apply to your business.

Four questions before you apply

  • Does the project meet the scheme objectives and eligible-cost rules?
  • Can you fund any required contribution and VAT or other excluded costs?
  • Must approval be secured before work starts or orders are placed?
  • Is payment made in advance, in stages or after eligible spending is evidenced?

Allow for the cash-flow gap

An award paid after spending does not remove the need to fund delivery. Build the contribution, payment timetable and reporting obligations into your forecast. Do not rely on a grant to meet an urgent payroll shortfall.

Know the conditions

An award is not guaranteed. Funding can be competitive and deadlines can close. Conditions may require delivery evidence, monitoring or repayment if they are not met. Read the grant agreement before making a commitment.

How TMS can help with the next step

Tell us what the investment must achieve. We can discuss the funding requirement and whether a grant search or specialist support is an appropriate next step. Any support scope and fees should be clear before work begins. The awarding body decides eligibility and awards.

01

Send the business details

Send your postcode, sector, project outline, budget, planned start date and the amount you can contribute.

02

Review the appropriate route

We will discuss the requirement and the information needed for a suitable provider or specialist review.

03

Check terms before deciding

The responsible provider or specialist explains eligibility, scope, costs and obligations. You decide whether to proceed.

Check current schemes before committing

Use the official government finance-and-support finder and the relevant local or regional business-support service. Grant availability changes. A useful project summary should explain the activity, commercial outcome, costs, timescale and evidence you can supply.

Business grants questions

Usually not if the award conditions are met. Breaches or other conditions can trigger recovery; read the agreement.

No. Each scheme has defined eligible activities and costs. Equipment, salaries or professional fees may be treated differently.

Many schemes require a contribution. The amount, payment method and evidence vary.

Some schemes exclude costs committed before approval. Check the current scheme rules before spending or placing an order.
